Abstract

Summary. Ampullar aneurysm of the popliteal vein (APV) is a rare but life-threatening disease. To date, more than 200 cases with this pathology are known. Early diagnosis of this disease is extremely important, since it is the cause of pulmonary embolism (РЕ) in patients, despite previous anticoagulant therapy. The main method of APV diagnosing is ultrasound examination. CT scan with contrast is recommended as an additional diagnostic method. The main method of treatment is surgical intervention. For the first time, APV was discovered by May and Nissl in 1968. A rare clinical case of APV complicated by lumen thrombosis and multiple recurrent PE is presented. The rarity of deep vein aneurysms of the lower extremities, the high probability of their thrombosis and PE, including recurrent ones, served as the basis for the publication of surgical treatment results.
