Abstract

Summary. The presented review shows that tobacco burn products affect vascular endothelium through inflammation and free radical stress; they worsen elastic properties of vascular wall and vasoregulatory activity. Tobacco smoking (TS) has clinical signif- icance as a factor that increases fibrinogen, as well as platelet aggregation together with a decrease in platelet sensitivity to antiplatelet agents. In addition, TS increases blood clot strength and whole blood viscosity performed higher shear stress and raised vascular resistance, as well as lower RBC deformability. As a result, smokers perform full Virchow’s triad reflecting increased both local and systemic thrombogenicity. Since TS remains meaning problem for the healthcare system in Russian Federation, then reducing thrombosis risk and other vascular catastrophes due to tobacco smoking is proposed to be considered as one of the components within a complex of psychological and pharmacological measures aimed at reducing the consumption of tobacco- and nicotine-containing products. At the same time, the very success of application this complex seen as a result of flexible use of prohibitions, beliefs and various ways to reduce nicotine addiction in order not to develop an atmosphere of stress.
