Abstract

Summary. Introduction. Since blood viscosity (BV) is an important factor in the formation of vascular resistance and, consequently, arterial pressure, its changes are an essential element in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. At the same time, to assess the role of hemorheological disorders, modern measuring equipment is required, which is lacking in most clinical laboratories. The problem can be solved using the calculation method for determining BV according to De Simone formulas based on the values of hematocrit and total plasma protein.
Aim: to compare the measured and calculated BV indicators and to determine their diagnostic and prognostic value. Materials and Methods.
A comparative non-randomized study was conducted. 69 people were examined: group 1 (n = 51) — h ealthy individuals, group 2 (n = 18) — patients with arterial hypertension (AH). All the examined subjects had their hemorheological profile parameters measured and their BV values calculated using De Simone formulas. Correlation and regression analysis of BV measurements and calculations was performed to identify the efficiency of diagnostic and prognostic capabilities of the calculated BV values. Results. A significant positive correlation was found between the calculated and measured BV, especially at high shear rates. It was shown that both methods of blood viscosity determination statistically significantly reveal an increase in BV in patients with hypertension. Conclusion. The data of the comparative study of hemorheological profile parameters allow us to conclude that BV values can be obtained based on simple measurements of hematocrit and total plasma protein levels. At the same time, the calculated BV values modeled for high and low shear rates using De Simone formulas show a similar tendency to the corresponding hemorheological determinants obtained by their direct measurement.
