Abstract
Summary. Hematologists often consult patients with suspected hemostasis disorders; however, not all these patients require specialized care. The most common reasons for seeking consultation with a hematologist include changes in laboratory tests that lack diagnostic value and a history of thrombotic or obstetric complications. Many of these issues can be addressed without the involvement of a hematologist, particularly when patients with suspected hemostasis disorders receive meticulous attention, their medical histories are thoroughly evalu- ated, and basic laboratory tests are appropriately interpreted. This article presents the author’s perspective, based on personal experience, which may contribute to the optimization of the patient flow from various specialists to hematologists.
