Abstract
We studied the pathogenetic role of iron ions in development of intestinal ischemia/reperfusion and endothelial dysfunction.
Blood viscosity at various shear rates, a content of serum iron, ferritin, transferrin and von Willebrand factor were studied on 40 male rats. In serum of experimental animals at intestinal ischemia/reperfusion we revealed the reduction of transferrin content (by 50%), increased concentrations of iron (by 35%), ferritin (by 4,5 times), von Willebrand factor (by 20–23 times) and disturbances of rheological blood properties: we found increasing of blood viscosity in microcirculatory vessels. Deferoxamine administration (at dose 80 mg/kg) 2 hours before modeling of ischemia/reperfusion decreased ferritin concentration and increased transferrin level that reduced rheological disturbances and degree of endothelial dysfunction. The development of endothelial dysfunction in ischemia/reperfusion is associated with impaired iron metabolism.
